Today, the Senate considered and adopted in two readings the laws "On Mass Media" (the original name is "On Mass Media"), "On Amendments and additions to some legislative acts of the Republic of Kazakhstan on mass media" and "On Amendments to the Code of Administrative Offenses on Mass Media", the correspondent reports Tengrinews.kz.
The laws provide for norms on mechanisms for financing state information policy by providing grants to non-governmental mass media in order to develop domestic content. The limitation period for journalists is also reduced to one year, and the time limit for responding to a media request is up to 5 days.
In addition, the changes provide for an increase in the weekly volume of television and radio programs in the state language from 50 percent to 60 percent, a phased transition of 5 percent (from 2025 55 percent, from 2027 60 percent). As well as an increase in the number of domestic television, radio programs and musical works by Kazakhstani authors/performers on domestic television and radio channels from 50 percent to 60 percent (a similar phased introduction is also proposed).
It is also planned to reduce the retransmission of foreign television and radio programs on domestic television and radio channels from 20 percent to 10 percent.
It is envisaged to establish a ban on the dissemination of information about methods of committing suicide and calls for suicide. Provision and control by local executive bodies of the broadcast of products and (or) the broadcast of state television and radio channels in public transport, which has an individual satellite and terrestrial receiving device.
The codes and laws have been amended to replace the word "mass media" with the word "mass media".
Mass media is the same as mass media (mass media): that is, a system and a set of technologies that ensure the transmission and dissemination of information.
