Minister of Culture and Information on the conclusions that our society should draw from the brutal murder of Saltanat Nukenova.
- Aida Galymovna, you are the chairman of the National Commission on Women's Affairs and Family and Demographic Policy. Do you follow the "Bishimbayev case"? The fact is that the public does not rule out an unfair verdict. How can you comment on this?
- As chairman, I and all members of the National Commission are closely following this trial.
The trial is held in an open format – this was the requirement of the parties. Hundreds of thousands of people are watching the meeting live. The society, opinion leaders, and journalists widely cover the process. I am sure that the court will make a fair decision. Law and Order, the primacy of which the head of state speaks, will be ensured.
As a woman and as a mother, I deeply empathize with Saltanat's loved ones, her mother. It hurts to watch the terrible video footage of her beating.
For Kazakhstanis, of course, she has already become a symbol of all victims of domestic violence. And I really hope that an open court and its transparency will keep potential criminals from violence and save many lives.
I want to appeal to all girls, to all women. Do not be under any illusions that the person who once raised his hand against you will change. It won't change! If he is able to hit a woman, humiliate her, he is basically devoid of moral principles and humanity.
You don't have to endure, come up with excuses for yourself and him that you love him, that he loves you, that you need to endure for the sake of the children. It's not a shame to get divorced. Believe me, the beatings will only get more frequent and worse. Impunity always breeds lawlessness.
No one has the right to humiliate human dignity, and even more so, to spread their hands.
I repeat once again: I am deeply convinced that the court will make a fair decision.
